My humble tribute to one of the greatest pop artist ever,Michael jackson..may his soul rest in peace...... i never got opportunity to meet him...ill always have this regret in my heart......
i feel it was MJ's badluck that he couldn't meet THE NIGHTINGALE OF INDIA LATA MANGESHKAR;who has 65 yrs of most successful career and who handled it so humbly and beautifully!(without any star tantrums or addiction etc.)
Dear Didi, I have wanted to tell you this for a long time. I hope you read the comments in this blog. When I listened to your Chala Vahi Des I felt you have actually seen God. When I heard Mhara re again and again I felt you could see God smiling at you when you sang it. Through your love of God you have made me and many others love God with that intensity. When I was 14 years old I had gone to a point of immense frustration with hate for the world. I wanted to die everyday and was droven to a point of breakdown. At that time I started listening to Chala Vahi des by chance and then I listened to it again and again and again. I felt I had a rebirth in which I could see a smiling God for the first time and not a god that shunned you and made you suffer. Pardon my writing in English since being a Bengali I do not know Hindi too well. Otherwise I know, you being so patriotic would prefer a writing in the National Language than in English. I had always wanted to ask you this, did you meditate yourself to the point of actually feeling the presence of God when you sang Chala Vahi Des? Do reply me and give me some thoughts on how you did it.
The difference between Michael Jackson and the Beatles is that while the Beatles went to India and transformed themselves and their sound no one in the country has even heard of them. MJ never went to India yet everyone has heard of him and a lot of people know all his dance moves by heart.
LATAJI in one contest I had asked u that the world knows lata mangeshkar but mangeshkar's lata very few people know;so when r u starting writing ur autobiography?we want to listen the legend from ur mouth!

As you regret never meeting MJ, same ways I regret not meeting you :-( :-( . I am too small to meet you. I don't know, how to come to meet you ma'am. I don't know what will I say, if I meet you. All I know, when I listen to your songs, I feel the divine presence.
No one can ask you for more. I hope to see you and touch your feet someday.

Will you be able to share a (preferably B&W) picture of you and Pu La together from the 1960's?
He wrote his appreciation when you completed 25 years of singing, in 1967, which was later included in गुण गाईन आवडी.
My Welsh neighbour in London is a big fan of your voice. She does not understand any Indian Language but follows your tunes not limiting herself to Hindi alone. She struggles to pronounce your last name. Fortunately your first name is easy :)
I translated Pu La's appreciation in English to share the view of a stalwart with her.
I hope that some day you will share your appreciation for Sachin and he will carry forward this tradition in a few decades when he identifies the next महाराष्ट्र भूषण!
Americam TV is showing lots of footage from his last Show which never took place sadly :-(
ReplyDeleteThis is it - is the Film made on his rehearsals
&
it showed him dancing & singing full of Energy -
His death seems so futile.
